FAMILY ALBUM Piyayo's progeny
The Hispano-Arabe is not a part-bred but a true breed in it's own right
with distinct characteristics. It is prepotent and produces fantastic
part-breds.
Piyayo did not start stud duties until he was 16 years old
and had very literally 'proved' himself in just about every equine
field of sport; he was a very talented and versatile horse with
tremendous character and heart.
His last foal was born only a few
months before his unexpected death at age 25 years, due to an internal
cancer growth. He had never retired and was still, up to the last day
in all respects 'fit and active' as a ridden working stallion.
In his
short time as a stud he produced about 20 partbred offspring and here are some of his progeny showing the diversity and prepotence
not just of such a unique horse as Piyayo but of the Hispano-Arabe
breed.
Cameron Ormiston leased us one of his precious Highland mares
Loinn of Croila whose bloodlines
(sire: Gille-Bhan of Croila, dam:Araich of Croila) stretch back to the days of infusion with Spanish Armada horses.
Epona Midas
Midas
perfectly shows how the introduction of the Hispano consolidates the
existing Spanish influence from past introduction of Iberian blood.
Many breeds are descended from deliberate or accidental crossing of
Andalusian horses with native ponies/horses.
Epona MidasProving he is every bit as good as his dad and equally much loved and enjoyed by his owner.
The first partbreds by Piyayo were out of a 14.2hh WelshxArab mare Autumn Cascade

Cassie and her full sister Lucia seen here as foals and then as mature horses.
Both mares show the influence of their Spanish sire in their build, and in the case of Lucia in the very strong Carthusian head.

of Spanish partbreds by becoming the breed society chairperson and

odds to battle on becoming a very versatile and treasured working pony.
